Cookies on CarerNest

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store, so it can remember information about your visit later. The UK Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR) — and the post-Brexit e-Privacy Regulations that update them — require us to tell you about cookies and to ask for your consent before setting any that are not strictly necessary.

What cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These cookies make the website work. They include your login session and your booking flow state.

  • session_id (the NextAuth JWT cookie) — your login session. Origin: carernest.com. Duration: 30 days.
  • carernest-ui — saves your in-progress booking flow (date, time, special instructions) so a refresh doesn't lose your work. Origin: localStorage on this device. Duration: until you submit the booking.

We cannot turn these off; the website won't work without them. Strictly-necessary cookies are exempt from consent under Regulation 6(4) of the PECR.

Preferences

These cookies remember UI choices you've made.

  • carernest-theme — your selected light / dark / system theme. Origin: localStorage. Duration: until you clear your browser data.
  • carernest-cookie-consent — your acknowledgement of this notice. Origin: localStorage. Duration: 12 months.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool designed to be GDPR-compliant without requiring cookie consent. Plausible:

  • Does not set cookies.
  • Does not track individual visitors across sites.
  • Does not collect personal data.
  • Anonymises IP addresses.

Under the ICO's interpretation of PECR, cookie-less analytics are exempt from consent. We use Plausible to understand which sections of the platform families and carers use most, so we can improve them. We never sell or share analytics data.

Marketing

We do not currently set any marketing or advertising cookies. We do not use third-party trackers, ad networks, retargeting pixels, or social-media tracking pixels.

If we add any marketing cookies in the future, we will:

  1. Update this page with the new cookies and their purposes.
  2. Show a consent banner before any marketing cookie is set.
  3. Provide a clear mechanism to opt out at any time.
  4. Notify all affected users by email at least 30 days in advance.

Third-party cookies

We do not embed content from third-party platforms that set cookies on carernest.com. Stripe's payment forms set payment-method cookies on stripe.com only — those are governed by Stripe's own privacy policy and the Stripe Customer Agreement.

Changes to this policy

If we add any non-essential cookies, we'll update this page at least 30 days before they take effect. A change-log is at the bottom of the Privacy Notice.
